Between Howls

Between Howls are violinist Ren Howl & guitarist Nick Howl. The husband & wife duo’s unique blend of intricate vocal harmonies, thoughtful lyrics and virtuosic instrumental arrangements have drawn in audiences across the country for nearly a decade.
Originally from Duluth, MN and Shell Lake, WI respectively, Ren and Nick met as students at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. In 2018 they formed the rock/fusion group, One Less Guest. The quartet released its debut album, Monochrome, in 2020- the album reached #91 on the NACC 200 Radio charts.
The following summer, the Howl’s and their bandmates relocated to the Los Angeles area, where they would remain for the next three years. While based out west they recorded two more albums with the band and contributed to numerous recordings for other artists in music and film.
After the hiatus of One Less Guest in 2024, Nick and Ren moved back to Wisconsin. The two now newlyweds spent a year in the woods of Gordon, WI recording what would become Between Howls debut album. In the spring of 2025 they released Cabin Fever, and embarked on a two-and-a-half-month cross country tour in support of the record.
Outside of the duo, Ren works intermittently with Nashville artist, Kashus Culpepper, as a member of his touring band. In this capacity, they have opened for Leon Bridges, performed at Stagecoach Music Festival, and were featured on CBS This Morning’s nationally televised Saturday Sessions‍ .
Between Howls are on the road frequently throughout 2026 and are currently in the middle stages of recording their second album.
